Get ready to see and hear something completely different.
The Phoenix Creative Music Movement is helping to keep the artistic pulse of the city beating with alternative bands and acts performing at Modified in downtown Phoenix. The PCMM promotes the creativity of Phoenix musicians in an atmosphere where they can play original music to local residents hungry for something different. This isn't made up of garage bands. These are people who are experimenting with sound and performance.
"I started this with my friend Marvin Scott," Jen Rogers said. "We want this to become a real reliable place for people to hear good music. You may not like what you hear all the time, but the music will be good."
Rogers said there were three conditions to the PCMM. The artistic quality of the music has to be high, the music has to be experimental and original, and at the end of the day the shows have to grow an audience.
There were 70 people at the last show and with the first PCMM festival coming up, it's safe to say the numbers will be even higher.
The festival will take place over two days with three acts going on each night, with each act doing something completely different. Jiggle, Trio Oro, and Frank Rosaly were scheduled for Wednesday, December 7. On the second day, Mike Bell, Back Ted-N-Ted, and New Jazz Saxophone Quartet will be performing.
"This is a hip sampling of what's going on in Phoenix," Rogers said. "Each group is a totally different thing. Even the people involved come from different places. We have ASU faculty, high school teachers and full-time musicians." |
